What is translation (t9n)?

Thursday 2 May 2013

Translation is the process of communicating the meaning of a piece of content in another language. Translation is a diligent task and requires mastery in both source and target languages. The English language draws a terminological distinction (not all languages do) between translating (a written text) and interpreting (oral or sign-language communication between users of different languages); under this distinction, translation can begin only after the appearance of writing within a language community. Translation strictly follows the source language text and message, so sometimes it fails to take into consideration any cultural preferences.
