2. Can machine translation tools produce a quality translation?
Machine translation is not capable of meeting your professional needs. The software that is available on the market today can only produce "surface" translations, in other words, word for word translations. Research today is aimed at creating software programs that could analyse context, syntax, and semantics. However, given the necessary processing capacity and number of languages that need to be researched, these tools will not be available for many years. In addition, you cannot create your own terminology database with these software programs. Even the best software program only offers you a generic database that does not meet the specialized terminology needs of your company.
In any event, there is more to translation than just terminology: grammar and the finished translation of your documents are also essential. There is no machine translation software program that can replace human translators who know how to find the correct expression in their native language, and who will not just translate word for word. Moreover, translators specialize in different fields and will know how to find the right terminology, as well as preserve the format of any kind of document.
